The location of our therapeutic home will be concealed from the public. There will be extensive background checks for anyone working directly with our youth. We will also have state-of-the-art security to ensure the safety of our children, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Countless studies show the most effective and disseminated psychotherapy intervention for children and adolescents to date is trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This includes various techniques that include education about trauma and its impact, strategies to promote relaxation and positive coping skills, techniques to address inaccurate or unhelpful thoughts related to abuse, gradual exposure to enable children to share details of their experience and process their trauma-related thoughts and feelings, joint parent-child sessions to increase open communication about the abuse and its impact.
A study by Allison N Sinanan, Department of Social Work, Stockton University, NJ, shows group therapy creates an environment where survivors of sexual abuse can meet and interact with other individuals who are faced with similar presenting problems.
Animals have a way of making us smile and opening our hearts. Children of sexual abuse are often frightened and have anxiety about opening up about their sexual abuse and trauma. Using animals in therapy, help establish rapport with children and gives them comfort to talk more openly about their ordeal.
Children suffer from various psychological issues from their trauma. We will provide homeschool options for those not ready or comfortable to go back to a school setting.
We are working with local businesses to develop a program that will teach the children to protect themselves from attacks and abductions, while building confidence, control, and self-esteem.
